Bring on the Day

Up before the birds
with an urge to buy AAA batteries,
the FM station plays classics
from Looney Tunes.
By the afternoon my eyes
should be red and runny.
Only people up at this hour
are fisherman and duty nurses.
Something I took
chased away my doldrums.
I wait for the rebirth
of the deadline.
